A Lively Neighborhood Hang-out in Publika
The Bee looks a lot like Central Perk, the café from Friends fame. What makes it stand out from the other cafés, bistros, restaurants and nightclubs at Publika mall is its neighbourhood java joint vibe. In fact the cafeteria-style restaurant looks like the type of hidden, hip joint frequented only by those in-the-know.
If you happen to pass by its green exterior, there is a huge chance you might walk right on by simply because from the outside, The Bee does not look like a restaurant: in fact at first glance it looks like a travel agency or bookstore.
Then you notice the aroma of freshly brewed java… Paying closer attention to the glass windows, you peer through its newspaper clipping and menu-covered windows to discover a seemingly undiscovered world inside.
Ingeniously making use of every inch of space they have, The Bee’s glass windows have diner-style messages on them, whether promoting milkshakes or lauding its live shows.
The interior of The Bee is very retro-inspired with exposed piping overhead, glossy concrete floors, mismatched black, red, light- and dark-brown wooden tables and chairs and cosy couches. The bar dominates the space with a large chalkboard hanging above it, sometimes featuring daily specials, other times with inspirational quotes written on it.
The Bee’s first outlet opened in Jaya One in Seksyen 14, and its newer venue in Publika mall follows the same theme as its flagship venture.
Getting to Publika mall on the other hand is quite easy: from Mont Kiara and Martrade, simply take Jalan Hartamas 1, Jalan Duta Kiara and Persiaran Dutamas. Publika mall is located along Jalan Duta.
